35 DENTON
MARCH 7-10 2013
35 Denton is elated to announce the first Texas performance by Chelsea Light Moving, the new band led by punk icon Thurston Moore of NYC’s legendary Sonic Youth.
With only a handful of tracks released for public consumption, 35 Denton will offer a rare opportunity to soak in Chelsea Light Moving’s snarling, skuzzy sounds in advance of the band’s forthcoming debut release on Matador Records.
In keeping with our policy of All Killer/No Filler, 35 Denton is also stoked to announce the addition of Atlanta’s preeminent street politico – Killer Mike – to our 2013 lineup. Killer Mike’s furiously thoughtful lyrics tackle the economic and social effects of the drug trade on his community, while calling out the crooked cabal of elected officials he sees pulling the strings. It’s heavy, y’all. But not as heavy as Mike Bigga’s rapid southern flow that rides the beat like Smokey and the Bandit on a Cannonball Run.
Also coming to 35 Denton in March of 2013: Electronic music pioneers, Silver Apples. The innovative duo began making psyche/pop waves in late-60’s New York, employing handmade oscillators in their compositions before synthesizers were commercially available. Minds will be blown when the hypnotic tribal drums and manipulated organic tones of Silver Apples start swirling in the skies above downtown Denton, Texas.
Finally, in an effort to totally freak you out, we’re thrilled to announce a few more of the performers bringing their respective talents to 35 Denton: Ohio’s ambient-synth explorers Emeralds; Decadent disco-poppers Poolside;Bay Area MC Antwon; Vancouver’s ultra-energetic White Lung; ATL ladypunks The Coathangers; The surf-rock inspired sound of Shannon and the Clams; Trippy guitar-pop devotee Delicate Steve; Lynchian doo-wopper Idiot Glee; and the Leeds-based indie-folk of Fossil Collective.
Yeah, there’s more. Texas garage-folk natives Buxton; Raw OC Burger punks Audacity; Art-damaged synth-jammerGary War; Celestial dronemaster How I Quit Crack; hometown pop-punk heroes Mind Spiders; Feverish folksters You Won’t; Baltimore headbangers Roomrunner; Psych-rock auditory assault team Destruction Unit; Seattle’s very sincereHey Marseilles; Classically tinged folk family The Last Bison; And the debut appearance of DJ Jonathan Toubin’s infamous Soul Clap Dance Off competition.
Check out all the goods in our latest announcement video featuring a cover of Silver Apples’ You & I by 2013 artist Lars Larsen.
